Forests programme

The programme for environmental monitoring and assessment Forests at SLU has extensive knowledge and experience of Swedish and international forest environmental analysis. The programme supports Sweden’s work on the environmental objective Sustainable Forests and other Swedish environmental objectives related to forests. Internationally, the programme’s expertise contributes to the development of forest monitoring, both within the EU and globally.

  • The Swedish National Forest Inventory

    Since 1923, the Swedish National Forest Inventory has been monitoring the state and changes of Sweden’s forests. The data is used, for example, to support the follow-up and evaluation of current forest, environmental, and energy policies. The National Forest Inventory is part of Sweden’s official statistics.

    Here you'll find official statistics on the state and development of Swedish forests provided by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

  • SLU Forest Sustainability Analysis

    We provide long-term future analyses of Swedish forest and forestry through the use of the Heureka system, which we manage and develop.

  • Integrated Monitoring in natural ecosystems (IM)

    Integrated Monitoring in natural ecosystems (IM) creates time-series with high resolution, showing processes in defined areas covering different geographical, depositions, and climate gradients across the country. Large-scale impacts on ecosystems are also studied.

  • Environmental monitoring

    The Unit for Field-based Forest Research monitor variations and changes in vegetation and forest conditions, soil and water conditions, as well as reference climate at the field stations.

    We produce and collect knowledge and competence for the health of the forest
