Contacts and what we do in the Acidification programme
Find contacts and about what we do.
The program's activities include evaluating data and provide a basis for assessments of acidification status of forest land and surface waters. A current issue is the acidification impact from forestry and the extraction of biofuel.
Priority areas
1. Recovery and re-acidification of limed lakes and rivers: Data on the temporal development of water chemistry and biodiversity after liming are needed when authorities prioritise any follow-up of liming. Priority should be given to projects that develop database interfaces and facilitate the collective export of relevant environmental data. For example, the IKEU programme (SLU and Stockholm University) has largely been discontinued, but a large amount of data is available; however, data must currently be downloaded one lake at a time and delivered by e-mail after a certain waiting time.
2. Soil geochemistry and acidification: How do base cation extraction, acid deposition and liming affect the acidity status of soil, soil water, groundwater and surface water? How do we assess land use persistence on different types of soils.
3. New statistical methods to assess changes in acidification variables and indicators in time and space
