Landscape Architecture - Urban Ecology

Updated: June 2025

The subject area has an interdisciplinary approach that combines ecology, biodiversity, human well-being with the management, design and planning of urban green and blue areas.

The subject area has a strong focus on how vegetation is managed, designed, and planned so that it can maintain ecological functions linked to biodiversity while developing places for well-being, play, recreation, reduced heat effects, aesthetics, and water absorption.

The focus is largely on the management, design, and planning of vegetation within urban areas, although the subject area also strives to include landscapes outside cities.

The subject is unique in the sense that it combines landscape architecture with several other disciplines such as ecology, environmental psychology, and history, and with a strong connection to practice.
