Uppcoming seminars and workshop

Thinking about what  the next step after your PhD is and how to get there? Welcome to a seminar given by Emma Thorén Hellsten and Martin Johnsson. They will describe their journey from being a PhD student to where they are today.

Emma Thorén Hellsten’s thesis work involved analysis of international data for genetic evaluation of sport horses. She has since worked as breeding manager at the Swedish Warmblood Association and later as an independent consultant focusing on knowledge transfer, coaching, and expert advice in breeding and genetics. She now combines her consulting with a part-time position as project manager at the Swedish National Equestrian Centers.

Martin Johnsson's thesis work focused on genomics of chicken domestication and feralization at Linköping University. Since then he has done a postdoc at both the Roslin Institute, Edinburgh, as well as here at SLU on genomics in farm animals. He is now an Associate Prof. at the Department of Animal Biosciences, SLU.

Meet a Professor

We are excited to announce an opportunity to organize a subject-specific event titled “Meet a Professor”. The aim is to provide PhD students and postdocs with an informal academic setting that fosters networking, mentorship, and connections with faculty beyond their immediate supervisors or departments.

In a small-group format, participants will have the chance to engage in in-depth discussions with an expert in a specific field, offering a unique platform for exploring research topics more deeply. The event will take the form of a conversational roundtable discussion.

Meet a Professor sessions can be organized either digitally or in person at SLU. If you have a particular subject area or professor you would like to engage with to discuss your research, please get in touch with us.

Do you have an idea for a seminar or a workshop?

GS-VMAS has funds available to grant money for seminars and/or workshops. If you have, e.g., invited an exiting opponent for a dissertation it may be a great opportunity to combine this with arranging a seminar or workshop.
