The JAWS 2026 is a two-day program designed to equip early career researchers with essential skills in scientific communication and research integrity.

A core focus of the program is scientific visualization, where participants will receive expert-led training and engage in hands-on sessions to develop clear and impactful posters and graphical abstracts based on their own research. Participants will bring a draft poster or graphical abstract to improve during the workshop.

In addition, the program addresses challenges in communicating science and how research can be made more robust, usable, and clearly communicated.

Are you a PhD student, postdoc, or early-career researcher looking for research funding opportunities? Join this hands-on workshop to learn how to use Pivot-RP, a powerful database for identifying funding calls tailored to your research profile.

This workshop is organised by GS-VMAS in collaboration with the Grants Office, and the session will be led by Lars Erik Lindell from the Grants Office.

During the session, we will:

  • Provide an introduction to Pivot-RP and its key features
  • Guide you through setting up and optimizing your personal profile
  • Demonstrate how to search for relevant funding opportunities, including travel grants and smaller project grants (e.g. around 100,000 SEK)

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops to set up their profiles during the session and practice identifying suitable funding opportunities, with support available throughout.

This is a great opportunity to get started with Pivot-RP and improve your ability to efficiently find funding aligned with your research interests.

For those attending on site a lunch sandwich will ber served from 11.45. If you are planning to attend digitally please write Zoom in the "Specialkost/Special diet" box so that we avoid ordering more sandwiches than needed.

Thinking about what  the next step after your PhD is and how to get there?

In this annual seminar series, we invite former PhD students to share their career journeys beyond the dissertation. Their stories highlight the many different paths available, both within academia and outside of it.

You’ll hear how they got to where they are today, sometimes through carefully planned decisions, and sometimes through unexpected opportunities along the way. In addition, they’ll share honest reflections, lessons learned, and practical advice to help you navigate your own next steps.

If you know someone that you would like us to invite you are always welcome to send us a suggestion.

Meet a Professor

We are excited to announce an opportunity to organize a subject-specific event titled “Meet a Professor”. The aim is to provide PhD students and postdocs with an informal academic setting that fosters networking, mentorship, and connections with faculty beyond their immediate supervisors or departments.

In a small-group format, participants will have the chance to engage in in-depth discussions with an expert in a specific field, offering a unique platform for exploring research topics more deeply. The event will take the form of a conversational roundtable discussion.

Meet a Professor sessions can be organized either digitally or in person at SLU. If you have a particular subject area or professor you would like to engage with to discuss your research, please get in touch with us.

Do you have an idea for a seminar or a workshop?

GS-VMAS has funds available to grant money for seminars and/or workshops. If you have, e.g., invited an exiting opponent for a dissertation it may be a great opportunity to combine this with arranging a seminar or workshop.
