Laurens Post is a new doctoral student at SustAinimal Academy and will join the MULCROPA project. Laurens aims to develop systems for growing plants that can be used as both roughage and grain.

My name is Laurens Post and I began my doctoral studies at SLU in Umeå at THV on April 7, 2025. I am originally from the Netherlands, but for the past eight years I have lived in many parts of Sweden: Jämtland, Skåne, Stockholm, and Umeå. In recent years, I have worked as an industrial doctoral student at Mälardalen University for SweGreen. In my research, I optimized the cultivation of lettuce and herbs by adjusting relevant parameters in a fully controlled growing environment.

I decided to return to a purely academic career, as I want to become a better researcher in the field of food production. For me, it feels positive to achieve this by returning to the SLU environment, as I took my master's degree in horticulture at the SLU campus in Alnarp.

My doctoral studies focus on feed and animal production in the Nordic region. I will be part of the MULCROPA project, which will enable me to develop systems for growing plants that can be used as both roughage and grain. This project will be part of the development of new knowledge within SustAinimal 2.0. My main supervisor during my studies is Mårten Hetta (SLU) and my co-supervisors are David Parsons (SLU) & Emelie Ekholm (Lantmännen). I look forward to working together in the future.

In my spare time, I love doing various DIY projects, being outdoors (both in summer and winter), and spending time with family and friends. In addition, I have a great passion for food in a very broad sense. How to grow, produce, preserve, prepare, and enjoy food!
