About us
Humanity is dependent on natural resources for survival. At the same time, we are in need of species and ecosystem services. Our research, environmental analysis and education contribute to solving that equation.
The Department of Ecology has around 150 employees. Together with the Department of Crop Production Ecology we form the SLU Ecology Centre – a Nordic and European hub for sustainable agriculture and forestry, plant protection, nature conservation and wildlife management.
We operate across the entire landscape – from protected to managed forests and from pastures to crop fields. This is why we belong to two different faculties: the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences and the Faculty of Forest Sciences.
Our employees work in Uppsala and at the Grimsö Wildlife Research Station as well as at the Wildlife Damage Centre. The department also includes parts of the SLU Risk Assessment of Plant Pests.
