INSYLVA Sweden

🌲 IN-SYLVA Europe
IN-SYLVA Europe is a European research infrastructure focused on understanding and improving forest ecosystems in the context of climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable use.

From a Swedish perspective, it connects the country’s strong tradition of science-based forest management with a wider European research network.

The infrastructure brings together long-term field experiments, laboratory research, and advanced modelling tools to support evidence-based forest management across Europe.

It contributes to key EU priorities such as the European Green Deal and the EU Forest Strategy, helping develop forests that are resilient, productive, and sustainable.

INSYLVA Sweden

INSYLVA Sweden is a coordinated national research infrastructure for forest research, innovation, and education built around four complementary service domains: in situ, in lab, in edu, and in silico. The infrastructure integrates experimental forests, environmental monitoring, analytical laboratories, digital platforms, modeling tools, and training environments to support sustainable forest management and forest-based bioeconomy research.

The in situ services are centered around Svartberget Research Station, Krycklan Catchment Study, Asa Research Station, and the Silva Boreal database, providing long-term forest experiments, ecosystem observations, and harmonized forest data resources.

The in lab services include the BAL and SSIL laboratories at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, offering advanced analytical capacities for biological, environmental, and forest-related samples. The In-EDU component is supported through the SILVA Research School, which provides doctoral training and capacity building in forest sciences. The in silico services integrate forest modeling, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and digital research tools to support data-driven forest research and decision support.

Together, INSYLVA Sweden provides an integrated platform connecting researchers, stakeholders, educators, and forest-sector actors within the broader European INSYLVA framework.
