The faculty's mission is to conduct high-quality academic research and teaching in the field of veterinary medicine and animal science. We are engaged in most aspects of the life and welfare of domestic animals.

    Department of Animal Biosciences

    Welcome to the department where we teach and research in areas ranging from molecular mechanisms and microbiology to whole animal structure and function! Our main subjects are anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, genetics, breeding, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootology, comparative medicine, food safety, bioinformatics and One Health. Our research covers production animals, companion animals, laboratory animals and wildlife.

    Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare

    Our aim is to advance responsible animal management, welfare, and sustainable food production while ensuring high product quality. Through research and education, we focus on feed and nutrition, management and environment, ethology and animal ethics, as well as animal welfare and protection.

    Department of Clinical Sciences

    We provide education and conduct research in clinical and comparative veterinary medicine and animal care. We also provide animal health care at SLU University Animal Hospital.

Swedish Veterinary Medicine 250 Years

Swedish veterinary medicine and veterinary education celebrated 250 years in 2025. For two and a half centuries, veterinarians have been trained for the animals, public health, and sustainable living.
