Nutrients are essential for life, but they can also contribute to undesirable environmental impacts. In our research group, we study nutrients in the context of aquaculture.
Nutrients are essential for all living organisms. However, excess nutrients in aquatic environments can lead to undesirable effects such as eutrophication. In fish farming, feed is supplied to support fish growth. This process can result in phosphorus, nitrogen and organic matter being released into aquatic ecosystems.
We study the flow of nutrients from feed, through the fish, and into the receiving environment, with a particular focus on water chemistry and sediments.
