Sustainiability aspects on dairy diets
I samband med Markos Managos disputation "Lifetime net GHG emissions and contribution to the food system from dairy cows fed best practice diets", bjuder vi in till detta seminarium senare samma dag.
Datum: 28 november 2025
Tid: 14:00 - 16:00
Lokal: Sal W, Ulls hus
Plats: Online, Uppsala
Dairy production is an important part of Swedish and European agriculture and food systems, both in terms of contributions of food for human consumption, economic turnover, land use, job opportunities, manure for crop fertilisation and crop rotation diversity with perennial crops. There are also challenges with and for dairy farming that are handled by academia, companies, policy and farmers. New knowledge is added continuously, on specific details as well as at the system level. In this seminar we will have presentations by three experts with different perspectives on dairy and sustainability and we will have two moderators, one from the animal science side and one from the soil and crop sciences side.

About the speakers
Peter Lund is a professor in Sustainable dairy production at Aarhus University in Denmark. He specialises in the interplay between nutrition, rumen microbiome and genetics. His research covers ruminant production with emphasis on improved utilisation of nutrients in dairy cows and reduced environmental impact of cattle production. More specifically feed additives and feeding strategies that can facilitate significant reductions in enteric methane and in excretion of nitrogen.
Corina van Middelaar is a researcher at Wageningen University and Research (WUR) working in the field of environmental impact assessment of livestock systems with a special focus on dairy. She specialises in evaluating strategies to reduce GHG emissions of dairy systems and on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions along the dairy production chain.
Cecilia Lindahl works at the Lantmännen company as a product developer for animal feeds. Lantmännen is an agricultural cooperative owned by Swedish farmers, and is a large player in Northern Europe. With grain as their foundation they refine resources of arable land for sustainable agriculture.
