Jag disputerade i systematisk botanik med fokus på lavar vid Uppsala universitet i 2007. Sedan dess har jag bott i Kalifornien där jag bland annat forskade epifyter på coast redwood träd. Under tiden 2019–2025 var jag lichenolog i Santa Barbara Botanic Garden där jag arbetade med många aspekter av lavforsking, inklusiva att utvärdera lavar för IUCN, USA och Kaliforniens rödlistor, genomföra lavinventeringar, undersöka lavsamhällssammansättningar, göra lavar mer tillgängliga för allmänheten via föredrag och skriftlig information och att identifiera, dokumentera och preparera lavar för Santa Barbara Botanic Garden's Lichenarium (lavherbarium). Jag började arbete för Artdatabanken 2025.
