How can research contribute to the development of nature interpretation? Research can provide knowledge about its methods and outcomes, but it can also raise new questions, make taken-for-granted assumptions visible, and open up perspectives and possibilities that have yet to be explored.
Nature interpretation connects with many fields of research, from environmental communication, education and natural resource management to questions about human–nature relations, culture and society. By bringing together different perspectives, we hope to inspire both researchers and practitioners to ask new questions about the role, conditions and possibilities of nature interpretation in a changing world.
On these pages, we have gathered a selection of research and research questions relevant to nature interpretation. The research areas offer an introduction to the wider field and should not be understood as a list of CNV's own research activities. You can also explore research projects that CNV conducts or participates in, as well as the Nature Interpretation Lab (NiLab), where we create opportunities for researchers and practitioners to meet.
Our ambition is for research to be a resource for continued curiosity, critical reflection and development—and for the questions and experiences emerging from nature interpretation practice to inspire new research in turn.
