Welcome letter
Congratulations on your place on the programme Environmental Communication and Management Master’s programme (MSc) at SLU in Uppsala, Campus Ultuna. We look forward to welcoming you here this autumn.
The 2026 autumn semester starts with a welcome event, followed by a mandatory roll-call and information session.
Date: Monday 31 August
Time and place: On the New Student web page, you can find information about the start of the semester and where and when the roll-call for your programme will take place.
On that same page, you will also find all the information you need as a new student at SLU.
Your first course on the programme is Introduction to environmental communication - Understanding and addressing environmental challenges from a communication perspective, 15 credits. On the course page, you will find the timetable and other course-related information. The timetable and reading list are published at least four weeks before the course starts. Please visit this page regularly and look into the “Information from course leader” tab for updates and information before the course starts.
As a student in the ECM programme, you will meet a diverse group of people from different countries, languages, and educational backgrounds. You are also likely to bring different experiences of environmental problems and different views on how environmental and societal challenges should be addressed, including the role communication should play. Throughout the programme, these differences in perspectives and experiences are used as a key resource for learning about environmental communication, together with theories introduced in the course literature and lectures. Developing writing and analytical skills, combined with practical group projects and collaborative assignments, is an integral part of the programme. You will draw mainly on social science theories to understand and navigate the communication situations we study and experience. We therefore recommend practicing academic writing and familiarizing yourself with modern social theories (if you do not have this background) before the programme begins.
We look forward to meeting you! The next two years will be valuable and exciting.
I wish you a warm welcome!
