My primary focus is on marine population and ecosystem dynamics, as well as fish stock assessment and management, at national and international level. I investigate spatial and temporal dynamics of exploited fish populations in relation to fishing pressure, predator-prey interactions, eutrophication and climate, with the final goal to foster an ecosystem approach to fisheries management. I have more than 15 years experience within the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES ).

I am the scientific responsible of the Swedish component of the Baltic International Trawl Survey (BITS) coordinated by ICES.

I am the Chairman of the ICES Baltic Fisheries Assessment Working Group (WGBFAS) and Study Group on Spatial Analyses for the Baltic Sea (SGSPATIAL).

I am Task Leader within HELCOM for the development of pelagic biodiversity and food-web indicators within the EU MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive).

I collaborate with the Southwest Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) and the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).

I have worked with third-world countries, under different SIDA projects, as consultant in the fisheries sector and as university lecturer in fisheries biology.

I have collaborated with the European Parliament as expert for the Baltic Sea.
