Last changed: 04 October 2013

SLU Biobank aims to incorporate quality systems to guarantee a quality insured management and storage of samples. The goal is to reach the standards of ISO certification.

Today, SLU Biobank has taken the following actions to guarantee an optimal management and storage of samples:

Well-educated personnel

Well-educated and experienced personnel perform the work within SLU Biobank. The personnel have several years of experience in biobanking activities based on the dog research biobank which has been up and running since 2009. Today, more than 40.000 samples have been managed within the dog research biobank. Standardized work procedures

Standardized methods

SLU Biobank routine work is documented in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

High traceability

A Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is used since 2009 to ensure full traceability of samples and data.

Quality Control and DNA Extractions

SLU Biobank offers DNA extraction from various tissues. The majority of the samples are extracted using the extraction robot QiaSymphony (Qiagen) and the DNA Quality is controlled using a NanoDrop instrument.

Aberration report

We continuously work to enhance our procedures to ensure traceability including aberration reporting of unusual events.

Monitoring of storage temperatures

When SLU Biobank moves to the new facility in Uppsala, we plan to use digital surveillance of temperatures in freezers. Today, the freezers are manually monitored once per day. The freezers also use a temperature alarm, which is activated when the temperature falls below a set value.
