The future platforms and interdisciplinarity

Complex societal challenges require a range of solutions. One of the most important goals for the future platforms, is to develop interdisciplinary working methods at SLU by initiating and enabling collaboration across scientific disciplinary boundaries.

The four Future platforms invited senior as well as junior SLU researchers to discuss transdisciplinary research. The focus for those two days was transdisciplinary research on sustainability combined with forestry, food production, urban landscapes and one health.

Interdisciplinary Academy (IDA)

The Interdisciplinary Academy (IDA) is a new initiative at SLU, where researchers with different academic backgrounds will have the opportunity to jointly develop their ability to work interdisciplinary in an inspiring environment.

"You never know the consequences of one conversation.” Keri Facer was one of the organizers of an interdisciplinary day at Ullbo. The aim of the day was to discover new kind of conversations about future food and how we use the landscape.

Webinars on interdisciplinarity

Part of the IDA initiative is a series of lunch webinars on different topics related to interdisciplinarity. The aim is to increase knowledge about interdisciplinary research work at SLU.

The One Health Breakfast Club

Take the opportunity to enjoy transdisciplinary discussions and initiate new collaborations with research colleagues. We starts off with a short inspirational talk, then some tasty breakfast together. See dates for upcoming events!

The Futures Lab

The Futures Lab at SLU is a forum for interdisciplinary explorations of future research questions and societal challenges. The lab is a joint initiative from the two future platforms SLU Urban Futures and SLU Future Food.

Food & Cities

Food & Cities is a collaboration between SLU Future Food and SLU Urban Futures.  The project seeks to identify knowledge gaps and cross-disciplinary research questions and establish a long-term thematic focus on food & cities  at SLU.

Urban Forests

Urban Forests is an area where many disciplines and sectors meet. This is also where the two future platforms SLU Urban Futures and Future Forests meet. In 2021 they started a webinar series, to shed light on various aspects that need more (transdisciplinary) research in urban forests.

Mistra Food Futures

Mistra Food Futures is a transdisciplinary research programme supported by SLU Future Food. är ett tvärvetenskapligt forskningsprogram som stöttas av SLU Future Food. Mistra Food Futures will take a systemic perspective in developing pathways for a sustainable and resilient future Swedish food system.

SLU:s framtidsplattformar

SLU has four interdisciplinary platforms, called Future Platforms, that integrate different scientific fields. The platforms are intended to be a living, interactive interface between academy and society. Another of their main aims is to develop interdisciplinary working methods by coordinating cooperation across disciplinary boundaries.
