Second International WRAM Workshop 2014, 21 May (Uppsala or webinar)
To join the webinar, go to the virtual 'WRAM Webinar Meeting Room'
Background
The Umeå Center for Wireless Remote Animal Monitoring (UC-WRAM) is managing one of the largest database infrastructures for real-time sensor data from fish, wildlife, and domesticated animals, hosting currently more than 93.7 million records on e.g., location, activity, or proximity. The system was upgraded since 2011 into a national database e-infrastructure ‘WRAM 2’ with funds from the Swedish Research Council. The development phase is coming to a successful end in mid-2014. From 2015 UC-WRAM will be part of the Swedish LifeWatch programme.
We want to invite all potential users, from fish and wildlife researchers to fish and wildlife managers and decision makers, to join together for a 1-day workshop to explore this new infrastructure, discover new ways of data sharing and collaboration, and share thoughts about the future direction of the ‘biotelemetry community’ in Europe.
The workshop will also be broadcasted as a 'webinar'. Hence, it is possible to participate 'virtually' in the workshop live from abroad! Please register below even if you participate in the webinar only!
Aim
The workshop aims to bring together researchers, research groups, managers, and decision makers working or planning to work with fish and wildlife telemetry sensor data to
- gather human competence on WRAM related data throughout Scandinavia and Europe,
- explore the technical possibilities the new WRAM 2 infrastructure is offering for international cooperation,
- build an international network of researchers and research groups who are willing to participate by sharing data and cooperation on the analysis tasks,
- discuss possible organizational constellations and the future integration of WRAM into Swedish LifeWatch
During the workshop we will present and hands-on test the new WRAM2 e-infrastructure, which will become operational during the summer and replace the current WRAM database. The workshop will cover questions like:
- How do you handle users?
- How do you access your data?
- What possibilities are there to set up access rules and permissions?
- How do you administer your projects, animals, tags, collars etc?
- How do you merge data from WRAM with data in other databases as e.g., Movebank?
