The purpose of the course is to develop the student’s abilities in communication and giving professional advice, as well as to provide knowledge of what is required to complete working tasks as a supervisor in veterinary nursing care.
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- explain communication theory with a focus on communication in animal healthcare,
- describe conditions for and limitations to effective communication, identify problems that can arise in communication in animal healthcare, focusing on the role of communicator and adviser and propose and justify solutions to these problems
- plan and structure advisory input in communication with animal owners,
- describe theories, models and terms that explain how individuals and teams function in an organisational context
-In general terms, describe and apply relevant labour law and health and safety regulations in animal healthcare
- describe the meaning of basic economic terminology
- reflect on different tasks, including quality assurance, that a supervisor or worker in in animal healthcare should be able to perform, as well as identifying potential issues that may arise and propose and justify solutions.

Grading form

Approved written examination and approved participation in compulsory elements.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.

Teaching will primarily be in Swedish, but some lectures and course literature are in English.General rules and guidelines for examination and grading can be found in the rules for education at first and second cycle level at SLU.
The entry requirement is fulfilled by a two-year veterinary nurse course.
