Teaching
I am the Director of Studies for the Master's program Plant Biology for Sustainable Production, which has students in Alnarp and Ultuna. I teach courses at the Bachelor's and Master's levels, mainly in plant biochemistry and molecular biology. Moreover, I am the course leader for the Bachelor's course Plant Chemistry and Biochemistry (KE0072). I also supervise Bachelor's and Master's thesis projects.
Research
My area of research is plant lipid metabolism, mainly focusing on seed oil synthesis. Each plant species has a specific composition of fatty acids in its seed oil that determines the properties of the oil. Plant oils have many uses both in the food sector and for industrial applications such as soap, lubricants, plastics, and biofuels.
In my research, we use lipid biochemistry and molecular biology to unravel how the enzymes involved contribute to the final seed oil composition and, thus, to its end uses. We study oil crops and wild species with interesting oil composition. The aim is to elucidate the function and interplay of the different enzymes involved in seed oil synthesis and how this regulates the oil's final fatty acid composition. This knowledge is vital for developing seed oils with improved or new fatty acid compositions through traditional plant breeding and biotechnology.
