Project Management for Landscape Engineers 2

Content
This is a course that will prepare future landscape engineers for the future professional life. Landscape engineers work in the green sector with challenges linked to sustainable planning and management of the cities of the future. The challenges for landscape engineers of the future are complex, not least because there are many actors to deal with and strong, sometimes conflicting interests. Our tool regarding to working with people in complex situations are communication.
During the course, many opportunities are given to consider the future professional role. The course deals with professional roles such as the authority and leadership roles and its preconditions with a focus on communicative aspects. This is done through study visits and guest lectures as well as in the project work in groups. The purpose of the course is that each student should learn to use tools handle different situations that professional landscape engineers encounter.
The course is planned as a reality in miniature and contains both skill-training parts and parts to broaden the approach to situations landscape engineers can encounter in working life. During the course, skills are practiced mainly in practical exercises, while lectures and literature seminars are primarily aimed at deepening theoretical understanding and new approaches. To guide the students, we have focused on a number of key concepts: Actor, participation, democracy, dialogue, information, conflict of interest, communication, complexity, method, perspective-taking, process, professional, project, conversation, collaboration, evaluation and profession.
During the course, real-life projects are carried out where students work together in a group. The project is ongoing throughout the course. For the project work there are supervisors within SLU and an external project commissioner from a municipality who contributed a project idea. In connection with the project work, various aspects and tools regarding project and process management are highlighted. The project work and the process itself are evaluated on an ongoing basis.
