30 credits in Landscape Architecture on second cycle level, and English 6 or equivalent.Objectives
The aim with the course is to allow for the student to further develop his/her familiarity with a professional role within the field of landscape architecture through practical work and reflection upon it, under the supervision of qualified instructor at the place of work.
After completing the course, the student should:
• Give a report on experiences from the workplace.
• Explain and critically reflect upon practice within landscape architecture in a wider professional and societal context.
• Reflect upon one’s own need of knowledge and development.
• Independently create and sustain relationship with the workplace.
Content
• Preparation for the work experience is done by the student who contact and make agreement with the internship organization in Sweden or abroad. The course responsible teacher will have to approve the internship organization.
• 9-10 weeks of practical work at the internship organisation.
• Written report (10-15 pages, pictures excluded)
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Examination through a work report written by student and a work certificate submitted by the supervisor at the internship organisation.
The work report shall include the following sections:
• Description of the company/office and their field of action in relation to the discipline of landscape architecture.
• Description of the various work operations that the student has taken part in.
• Reflective discussion concerning practise/place of work/professional role/societal context.
• Reflections and critically discuss, for example, tasks and background information, the work process, possibilities for re-evaluation within the work process, matters of accessibility and equality, etc.
The content and qualities of the work report are grade-determining.
The supervisor´s assessment (via work certificate) should include the student´s own capacity for taking initiative, degree of motivation, actual performance and ability to work independently as well as in groups.
Requirements for examination:
• Present for at least 80% of the time during the work experience period.
• Approved work report.
• Submitted work certificate.
If the student has been granted special educational support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative assessment.
If changes are made to this course syllabus, or if the course is closed, SLU shall decide on transitional rules for examination of students admitted under this syllabus but who have not yet passed the course.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Additional information
It is the student’s responsibility to find an internship organization and a professional supervisor.The internship organization and the scope of the internship have to be approved by the course responsible and intended supervisor two weeks prior to the commencement of the internship. A form will be available.
The right to take part in teaching and/or supervision only applies to the course date to which the student has been admitted and registered on.
If there are special reasons, the student may take part in course components that require compulsory attendance at a later date. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education.
