GIS and Geographic Analysis

Information from the course leader

2020-09-08
Welcome to the all-inclusive course on Geographical Information Systems and Geographic Analysis TN0329.
The aim of TN0329 is to present geographical information system (GIS) as a tool for planning, implementing, and presenting real-world projects of geographic dimensions. Applied on vectorised as well as rasterized information, the course contains elements of cartography, geodesy, positioning techniques, database techniques, international map-base standards, and international law. The course is principally problem based (CASE-based), with geographic information systems being taught within the context of group-wise performed project studies. The projects will address current issues within adequate disciplines of free choice, and stimulate students to work with all the necessary steps from data collection to geographic analysis and map-based presentation of project reports. The students will also be taught to critically evaluate the possibilities and limitations of computer-based geographic analysis. In parallel with CASE projects, the education is internationally web-based where geographic information systems are taught via problem-based computer exercises (web courses). The course combines mandatory exercises with the possibility of adding personally profiled web courses. With teacher guidance, the web courses are chosen to cover topics that range from data capture to geographic analysis, and design of traditional as well as web-based maps. Each exercise is examined at the web, where the resulting certificate is internationally valid. Please examine the TN0329 web-site to examine our supply of web-courses, and to learn how they may be combined at different levels of examination.
