The molecular signature of selection in animal germ cells

visits to slu | events |

Join us for an exciting lunch seminar with Professor Simone Immler, hosted with the support of the SLU Breeding Network.

Professor Immler from the University of East Anglia, UK, will present results from her research to understand the molecular signatures of selection in animal germ cells. Sperm within a single ejaculate differ genetically, morphologically, and in performance. Professor Immler’s research explores how the genetic diversity based on segregation, recombination, and mutation among sperm from one male contribute to sperm quality and function and how this translates into offspring fitness. Using diverse organisms from zebrafish to humans, her work uncovers how selection pressures at the gametic level can drive evolution and impact reproductive success.
