Hej,
Först och främst: Varmt välkommen till Lantbruksvetenskap för mark&växt-, livsmedel-, och husdjursagronomer! Vi lärare hade sett fram emot att träffa dig, men till följd av den rådande situationen med Covid-19 kommer detta inte att vara möjligt rent fysiskt. Som du med all säkerhet redan har fått erfara ska all högre utbildning, på regeringens rekommendation, bedrivas på distans på obestämd tid.
På en kurs som denna – som redan i vanliga fall är komplex, i och med att lärarlag från fem olika institutioner deltar i undervisningen – har omställningen till distans ställt nya krav på kursplaneringen. Vi som undervisar på kursen har arbetat intensivt med att göra det bästa av den rådande situationen, och planera utifrån de nya förutsättningar som detta extraordinära läge för med sig – allt för att göra kursen lika bred och innehållsrik som den alltid har varit.
Kursintroduktionen kommer att strömmas live via videokonferenstjänsten Zoom den 18 januari kl. 10:15–11:00. Det är högst rekommenderat att du deltar på introduktionen, eftersom att du då har möjlighet att ställa frågor i realtid.
Alla salsföreläsningar är ersätta med e-föreläsningar. Dessa kommer antingen att finnas som inspelade Powerpointpresentationer i Canvas, eller som live-föreläsningar via Zoom. Under kursen kommer du ges möjlighet att diskutera föreläsningarna och annat kursinnehåll; både under frågestunder som genomförs i Zoom och i kursens gemensamma diskussionsforum i Canvas - ofta undrar en av dina kurskamrater samma sak.
Om du har en smartphone eller tablet rekommenderar vi dig att använda Canvas-appen, som finns tillgänglig på iOS, Android, och de flesta andra plattformar. Använder du appen får du en push-notis när något händer i kursrummet, och du kan på så vis hålla dig uppdaterad med den senast informationen.
Avslutningsvis vill vi påminna dig om att du måste registrera dig på kursen, precis som vanligt.

The aim of the course is to, from a Swedish perspective, give the students knowledge of the relationship between the biological preconditions for the production processes, understanding of the conditions, needs and actions for the agricultural sector and its’ interaction with the rest of society.
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
-account for economic thinking and business economic perspectives, with application to agricultural businesses, at a general level.
-use and understand keywords that describe the economic situation in a company
-define important aspects of rural and agricultural policy, economics and national and international political organisations
-describe at a general level the Swedish food industry and international actors and food labels
-be familiar with industrial processes and hygienic aspects in the food industry at a general level and with the requirements that they set on agriculture
-describe basic biological differences between different important production animals in the agriculture that influences what at a general level they are used to and which requirements are set on feeding and maintenance and ethical aspects on animal husbandry.
-describe important practices in the animal husbandry at a general level.
-describe at a general level preconditions (social, cultural, economic) for rural development.
-describe at a general level aspects of the history of the rural area
Content
The course focuses on Swedish conditions and covers the economics of the agriculture, resources, methods - including technology - for production of goods (production of animals and food) and these products’ controlled breeding.
In the course, lectures are alternated with a project work in groups to be presented orally and in a written report. The connection between different parts of the course and the relevance for crop production are obtained through case studies (project work)
Argumentation technique is practiced in both exercise and group discussions.
Practical connection is obtained through study visits.
Compulsory components occur within e g exercises, study visits, group assignments and presentations.

The aim of the course is examined through written examination and approved participation in compulsory course modules.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
