Centre of Excellence in Animal Welfare Science

The Centre of Excellence in Animal Welfare Science is a Swedish network for researchers in natural and social sciences - establishing scientific excellence to improve animal welfare. The network is coordinated by SLU.

Our six goals aiming to improve animal welfare:

  • To provide a dynamic scientific forum for discussion 
  • To promote cooperative efforts by joining different competences 
  • To produce high quality peer reviewed publications 
  • To provide a supportive environment for students and young researchers to develop their career in animal welfare
  • To support stakeholders to safeguard and improve animal welfare 
  • To enhance Sweden's reputation as a leading nation in animal welfare

PhD course: Equitation Science

Registration is now open for the 2023 PhD course in Equitation Science. This course will be held 30th October - 3rd November 2023 at Wången (Sweden’s national centre for the education and development of harness racing and Icelandic horse riding).

Registration deadline: 15th September, 2023

Animal Welfare Journal Club

The Animal Welfare Journal Club will meet every 3rd Wednesday, 13:00-14:00, starting on September 20th.

We discuss a very diverse range of papers, covering all aspects of animal welfare and protection, and all species. If you have not joined before, you are very welcome to just drop in to one of the meetings to check it out. Just ask me and I will send you the link.
