Jens Rommel

Jens Rommel
I am an Associate Professor (docent) at the Department of Economics and a member of the "Decision-making and Managerial Behavior" research group. My research focuses on understanding farmers' and consumers' behavior. I often use field experiments in my work.

Presentation

How do farmers, resource users, consumers, and other stakeholders make decisions? What is the impact of institutions, and social norms on decision-making? How can we devise better tools and methods to understand human behavior? These are some of the questions I am addressing in my research.

Teaching

I am the course leader and examiner for "Experimental Methods for Economics and Business Studies" (NA0185) and "Quantitative Finance" (FÖ0459). I am teaching parts of the course "Value Chains and Networks in the Bio-Economy" (FÖ0454). From 2019 to 2021, I was the thesis examiner for B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses in Economics (EX0903, EX0905, EX0907), and I regularly supervise theses in Economics and Business Studies.

I am the deputy director of studies for the AFEPA program.

Before joining SLU, I have taught different courses at Bachelor and Master level at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, e.g., "Introduction to Microeconomics" or "Behavioral and Experimental Economics of Agriculture and the Environment." I have also supervised several graduate theses, and I have been a frequent member of PhD committees at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany.

I regularly teach internationally on experimental methods at advanced levels (e.g., at University of Zagreb, Kasetsart University Bangkok, University of Bonn).

I lead a work package on farmers' behavior and coping strategies in a project on climate-resilient agriculture. I coordinate a work package in the project "Economic policy instruments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the Swedish food sector" coordinated by Sarah Säll, a work package on preferences for renewable energy investments in real estate in a project funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (coordinated by Erik Gråd), and a work package on a field experiment on household waste (coordinated by Efthymia Kyriakopoulou). I am also leading a work package in a project on science-based targets in the dairy sector (coordinated by Uliana Gottlieb).

I am part of the Agrifoodboost project. I currently chair the REECAP network. I am an adjunct professor at Kasetsart University, Bangkok.
