Grading scale
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.
Language
EnglishPrior knowledge
The equivalent to: 90 credits in Biology or Forest Science and English language proficiency demonstrated as:- English B (Swedish secondary school) or equivalent. Grade requirement: A minimum grade of Pass in the course above.
If the accomplishment of the course needs particular qualifications, specific courses can be requested.
Objectives
After completing the project work the student shall be able to:
use previously acquired knowledge in order to independently solve a problem
formulate a study question, collect or use relevant data, and scientifically analyse and discuss the data
write a report in a correct, well structured and interesting way, and present the results orally.
Content
To be registered for the course, the student shall, in cooperation with the supervisor, identify a suitable topic and submit a brief study plan to the course convener. The workload must be adjusted to the given time frame of the project work. The student will work independently, with support from the supervisor. Compulsory parts, such as lectures, exercises, study visits, field studies and/or literature studies may occur depending on the character of the problem chosen. The student has access to library, computers and the special equipment required for solving the problem. Work in the field, laboratory or other activity that might involve risk, requires that safety instructions are formulated. The student will account for his/her work in a report that will be graded according to introduction to the problem, description of method, data processing, discussion and conclusions, use of literature, linguistic usage, and the extent of irrelevant text, among others. Besides this the student will present for his/her work orally at a seminar.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
The examination consists of:
Oral presentation of the results at a seminar.
Written scientific report. Approved demands according to above. The examiner will approve the report when it corresponds to the demands of scientific quality and text processing.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.

The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
