Objectives
The course intends to provide knowledge of how one plans and carries out a scientific study and how one analyses, discusses and presents the results. On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- use earlier acquired knowledge independently to solve an assignment
- identify and formulate an issue
- on a scientific basis search, analyse and discuss relevant data in an issue
- within given time frames present an issue and its solution partly written in a well-structured and interesting report, and partly orally in a well prepared seminar
Content
To satisfy the expected learning outcomes, the student in collaboration with supervisor should, identify a for the subject appropriate issue. The extent of the work should be at such a level that it can be completed within stated time. The student works independently with support of supervisor. Compulsory components that lectures, exercises, study visits, field studies and/or literature studies can occur depending on the nature of the chosen assignment. The student should present his work in a report that is graded regarding introduction to the issue problem formulation, method description, data processing, conclusions, use of literature, language and extent of irrelevant text. In addition to this the student should present his work at a seminar orally.Formats and requirements for examination
The examination consists of:1. Written scientific report.
2. Oral presentation of the study at a seminar.
Passed demands as above. Examiner accepts the report, when it corresponds to set requirements of scientificalness and text processing.
- If the student fails a test, the examiner may give the student a supplementary assignment, provided this is possible and there is reason to do so.
- If the student has been granted special educational support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative assessment.
- If changes are made to this course syllabus, or if the course is closed, SLU shall decide on transitional rules for examination of students admitted under this syllabus but who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education at Bachelor's and Master's level.
Other information
- The right to take part in teaching and/or supervision only applies to the course date to which the student has been admitted and registered on.
- If there are special reasons, the student may take part in course components that require compulsory attendance at a later date. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education at Bachelor's and Master's level.

At work in field, laboratory or other activities that can be united with risk should safety precautions be designed.
