Trainee course in business management in agricultural and horticultural enterprises
Under traineeperioderna studeras hur de redskap och metoder som litteraturen anger används i ett praktiskt ledarskap genom att studenten följer handledaren i det praktiska arbetet med operativt ledarskap innehållande arbete med att leda människor, fatta beslut, förhandla etc. Handledaren ska även intervjuas.
En andra uppgift under traineeperioderna är att på egen hand, men på uppdrag av handledaren, utreda mer långsiktiga frågeställningar än de operativa, t.ex. följa upp verksamhet, ta fram underlag till strategiska beslut etc. Minst en utredning måste ingå per praktikperiod.
En tredje uppgift under traineeperioderna är att samla fakta på ett mer vetenskapligt sätt kring en specifik fråga om företagsledande i syfte att bidra till kunskapen hur företagsledande går till i praktiken. Instruktioner kring detta ges av kursansvarig.
En fjärde uppgift under traineeperioderna är att arrangera ett studiebesök för kursansvarig på företaget.
Efter den andra traineeperioden hålls ett seminarium där varje student håller ett föredrag där gjorda erfarenheter under traineeperioden redovisas samt reflektioner kring vad som upplevts i förhållande vad teorin säger. Detta material ska även redovisas skriftligt.
Seminarier och traineeperioder är obligatoriska.

Objectives
The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding and a holistic approach, both theoretically and practically, when it comes to managerial duties. On completion of the course, students should be able to
• Explain the strategic, tactical and operational planning
• Describe the marketing and strategic development
• Evaluate the financial
• Reflect on the important factors of leadership, teamwork and organization
• Participate in production planning and follow-up
• Understand and reflect on how the underlying factors affecting the business conduction.
Content
The course starts with literature studies linked to the course objectives. Then the student has two trainee periods. During these periods the student will also work with a number of tasks. The course concludes with a written summary of the experience gained during the trainee period and reflections on what is perceived in relation to what the theory says. The student will also hold a lecture about this during a seminar. Seminars and trainee periods are compulsory.

The examination consists of written tasks, oral and written presentation. Compulsory attendance of the trainee company is needed, participation in seminars and passed tasks as well as passed oral and written presentation.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Transitional provisions
• Exams: At least three retake sessions (renewed exams) will be offered within two years of the decision to discontinue the course. • Compulsory components: At least one opportunity for a retake session will be offered within two years of the decision to discontinue the course.Other information
