**Body—landscape**



The aim of the course is to offer specialised knowledge in the subject of body comfort during prolonged outdoor activities and how to control microclimates through landscape design. It is given in collaboration with Akademiska Hus’s development project Activity based outdoor learning environments and will include the construction of one or more prototypes in support of outdoor learning activities at Campus Alnarp.



*Tentative course structure*

Week 1–3:

Theoretical backdrop: Microclimate and body comfort.

Embodied research: Exposing ourselves to different aspects of the microclimate.

Full scale testing: Using different materials and elements to discover how they interfere with microclimate.

Week 4–6:

Design proposals: Working individually and in teams to produce proposals for prototype structures in support of outdoor learning activities at Alnarp campus.

Lectures and tutoring by professionals that designs weather protection structures.

Week 7–9:

Construction of selected prototypes.



*Learning outcomes*

After the course the student shall:

Understand how microclimate affects body comfort in different outdoor environments;

Understand how microclimate can be controlled in landscape design; 

In cooperation with fellow students and with the aid of professional designers, be able to design an expedient structure that provides body comfort during outdoor learning activities.
