Energy and Environment

The course starts with an introduction to energy concepts and strategies connected to global and national environmental goals. The course comprises the following learning activities:



  • lectures on techniques and systems for the utilization of different energy types (including bioenergy, solar, wind and hydroelectric power); resource requirements and availability for various types of energy (particularly wind, wave and solar ones); energy conversion and storing; nuclear power; and air pollutions and their effects on health and environment;



  • laboratory work and calculation exercises related to energy conversion;



  • study visits to several energy installations;



  • an individual project work where each student analyses and reflects on an energy system in its relation to environment and climate issues. The work is presented orally and in writing as well as be discussed at a round table and



  • examination through a written test as well as the project work.




The timetable activities include lectures, calculation exercises, laboratory work, supervision, project presentation, study visits, examination as well as course evaluation, while individual studies include literature studies and project work.


Compulsory components are the supervision classes, the presentation of the project work, the study visits as well as active participation in the oral presentations of the individual projects.
