Enrolled PhD who have already earned 120 HEC in Biology including plant physiology and genetics.Objectives
The changing climate and an increasing world population require more food and feed production in a sustainable way. Plant breeding has a crucial role in producing healthy and environmental friendly food and feed by producing new cultivars that can better adapt to a changing climate. Plant biotechnology including tissue culture and gene technology is an important modern breeding tool in producing such new cultivars (referred as biotech crops hereafter). The overall objective of this course is to provide the PhD students a better understanding of biotechnology application in agriculture and its potential use in the future, the important tissue culture and molecular methods used for producing and analysing biotech crops, and the current regulations about biotech crops within Europe.
On completion of the course, the students will be able to
perform tissue culture work independently
choose the plant transformation methods depending on purpose and perform plant transformation independently
independently choose and use the most commonly used molecular methods in their own studies.
get more familiar with specific regulations about biotech crops and with the biotechnological companies in Sweden
