Thermochemical conversion

The course mainly deals with combustion and upgrading of fuels, with a focus on biofuels. In addition to this, orientation in areas such as CCS and fuel cells is also included.

The course begins with basic combustion theory, which is deepened step by step and becomes more applied in the form of studies of technical equipment for combustion and gasification. The advantages in the form of released heat, and disadvantages in the form of emissions, caused by the combustion are analyzed. It is also investigated how facilities for handling various fuels, e.g. by co-combustion and incineration of waste, function. To close the loop, techniques for minimizing emissions, ash recycling and carbon dioxide storage are also being studied.

The course is both theoretical and practical with lectures, laboratory work and possible study visits. To train independence and cooperation, a group work with a technical focus is included.
