Välkommen till Biomedicinsk baskurs

Biomedicinsk baskurs ger grunden för fortsatt studier genom hela veterinärutbildningen. Kursen ingår cellbiologi, biokemi och histologi samt allmän genetik. Ni kommer att studera strukturen och funktionen av livsmolekyler (nukleisyor, proteiner, kolhydrater och lipider), och de biokemiska processerna sker i levande celler såsom DNA replikation, transkription, translation, enzymkatalyserad reaktion, hur cellerna tar emot och bearbetar extracellulära signalerna, cellens och kroppens metabolism. Ni kommer också att studera strukturen hos de molekyler, celler och vävnader som bygger upp organismer. Kursen ingår också allmän genetik.

Inför kursstart vore det bra att repetera gymnasium kemi och biologi kurser om det var ett tag sedan du har läst de kurserna och det kommer att underlätta dina studier under första läsåret.

Objectives

The course gives a basis for an understanding of the processes, metabolism, genetics and histology of the cell.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe the structure and the function of the molecules, cells and tissues that build up organisms,
- describe the bases in histology on cell and tissue level,
- describe the bases in genetics,
- describe the metabolism of the cell and the body at different physiological situations on cell and organism levels,
- use microscopes practically.

Content

The course includes the structural and functional properties of the eukaryotic cell, histological structures of epithelium, connective tissue, nerve tissue and musculature, interactions between cells and their environment, cellular transport mechanisms, signal transduction, structure and function of biological macromolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids). Furthermore, enzymology, as well as the regulation of normal cell growth and differentiation and the basis for malignant transformation are included. In addition, basic genetic mechanisms (the structure of the genetic make-up, replication, transcription), RNA-processing, translation, regulation of gene expression, general genetics and population genetics, and the metabolism of the cell and the body and its regulation are included.

The course is based on lectures, group exercises and practical activities such as laboratory sessions and microscopy exercises. Some of the group exercises are compulsory.

Formats and requirements for examination

Passed written examination and approved participation in compulsory elements.
  • If the student fails a test, the examiner may give the student a supplementary assignment, provided this is possible and there is reason to do so.
  • If the student has been granted special educational support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative assessment.
  • If changes are made to this course syllabus, or if the course is closed, SLU shall decide on transitional rules for examination of students admitted under this syllabus but who have not yet passed the course.
  • For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline. For more information on this, please refer to the regulations for education at Bachelor's and Master's level.

- Studenten beskriver struktur och funktion av biologiska makromolekyler, samt redogöra för vilka typer av kemisk bindning som håller dem samman.

- Studenten redogör för grunderna i enzymologi inklusive enzymkinetik.

- Studenten redogör för cellens uppbyggnad, cellbiologiska processer samt för hur celler kommunicerar med varandra.

- Studenten redogör för principerna vid cellens differentiering samt för principerna för malign transformation

LM2 (redogöra för grunderna i histologi, på cell- och vävnadsnivå)

- Studenten identifierar olika vävnader och celler från mikroskopiska preparat samt redogör för funktion av olika vävnader och celler.

LM3 (redogöra för grunderna i genetiken, på cell- och organismnivåbeskriva cellens och kroppens metabolism och diskutera denna i relation till olika fysiologiska situationer)

- Studenten beskriver grunderna för genetiken, både molekylär genetik, ärftlighetslagar och genetisk variation. Studenten redogör för funktionen av olika metaboliska reaktionsvägar, känner till skillnader i metabolism mellan olika organ, samt redogör på enzymnivå för hur metabolismen regleras under olika fysiologiska situationer.
