Content
The course contains theoretical elements such as lectures and seminars as well as practical exercises in the form of laboratory sessions, handling, examination and sampling methods, various forms of drug administration and operating room procedures. The exercises are performed on live animals, as well as on cadavers, models and via simulation programs in a clinical training laboratory. The course also includes exercises in gynaecological examination of horses, cattle and dogs and exercises in obstetrics, including working on artificial animals, cadavers and organs. Suturing techniques etc. are practised in the clinical training laboratory. Simple surgical exercises on live animals may also take place. Practical exercises and radiology seminars are compulsory. Some instruction may be given in English.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the examination of a degree project (independent project), the examiner may also allow the student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Additional information
**Discontinued practice**A student may receive a fail grade and be stopped from participating in the practical training with living animals if there is a tangible risk that the student, through severe incompetence, could injure animals, other persons, themselves, or valuable property if they continued to participate in the practical training. An individual action plan will be prescribed for the student and served to them in writing. The plan will be established by the department responsible for the course after consultation with a study counselor and the student concerned. This plan, which is decided by the programme director of studies, should indicate which deficiencies in knowledge and skills the student has, which kind of support the student can receive from the department, and when a control can take place that the deficiencies have been resolved. The plan will also specify how this control will be carried out. Each student has the right to a maximum of two control occasions, but no more than one per year. The student may not take part in practical training with living animals until the programme director of studies has controlled and confirmed that the student has the knowledge and skills that are required.

Litterature list
- Reproduktion och obstetrik Kommentar: •Noakes et al., “Veterinary Reproduction and Obstetrics”,10th edition, 2019 •Nelson & Couto, Small Animal Internal Medicine, 5th ed •Senger, PL: Pathways to pregnancy and parturition, 3rd edition, 2015 •Brinsko et al., 2011: Manual of equine reproduction. Finns på SLU biblioteket som e-bok: https://www.sciencedirect.com/book/9780323064828/manual-of-equine-reproduction
Kompendier som finns i Canvas:
• Compendium on Equine reproduction
• Kompendium i nötkreaturens reproduktion
• Reproduktion, förlossning och juverfunktion hos gris
• Kompendium i kattreproduktion
• Kompendium i hundreproduktion
- Smådjur Kommentar: Nelson, Cuoto; Small Animal Internal Medicine, 5th ed, 2013
