A new strong member has joined the GCUA 2030 network

The Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) is a public institution that operates with academic freedom and is committed to the comprehensive development of the State of Querétaro, Mexico. UAQ's participation in GCUA 2030 would not have been possible if the university did not have a plan for the sustainable development of the state of Querétaro.

The University is present in 17 out of 18 municipalities which indicates the extensive reach of the university. Additionally, the state is divided by UAQ into 7 clusters, each with specific interests based on the fauna, flora, resources, ethnic groups, and the needs and opportunities of the region. Through the Training Corridor for Regional Development for Sustainability in the state of Querétaro (CORESU), a collaborative project that involves academia, government, and civil society, UAQ seeks positive impact on society.

The Faculty of Engineering, known as FI, is the largest faculty among all the faculties at UAQ and has a significant presence in the state with eight campuses. The faculty offers 43 educational programmes which makes it one of the largest faculties within the UAQ.

The faculty has received numerous awards, not only in technological and academic aspects, but also in social, gender, economic, and environmental areas. Last November, the National Association of Engineering Faculties and Schools (ANFEI) named it the best engineering faculty in the country.

The plan UAQ has to achieve the transformative change GCUA 2030 aims for is to continue to provide the next generation of researchers, professors, and academic leaders with knowledge, tools, and networks within sustainable development. This is also based on Sustainable Development Goal 4.

So for the local reach, the Faculty of Engineering will play a key role in leading, training, and motivating its sister faculties to join forces, collaborate, and adopt a common vision of contributing to sustainable global development.
