In times of increasing urbanization, urbanized lifestyles and the threats of climate change and biodiversity loss, we turn to nature for salvation through nature-based solutions. While we expect ecosystem services and benefits from urban nature, we often fail to ask what nature asks of us and what we can ask of ourselves. Perhaps a journey into the past and present can help us navigate into an unpredictable future, where some answers lie in past knowledge and practice, and in finding the right pace, where urban planning runs in tandem with the speed of nature and landscape?
