Välkommen till Djuromvårdnad inom djurens hälso- och sjukvård 1 (DoDoS 1)
Under vårterminen med början den 18 februari så kommer ni att läsa två kurser parallellt, DoDoS 1 tillsammans med kursen Färdighetsträning av kliniska moment (Praktiska kursen - DO0126).
Litteraturlistan gäller för båda dessa kurser och innehåller många böcker som kan komma till använding även senare under er utbildning.
Det preliminära schema som finns utlagt avser endast DoDoS 1, vilket innebär att övrig tid är schemalagt för Praktiska kursen.
För att få en helhetsbild, se det kombinerade schemat som kommer att finnas utlagt på kursernas Canvassidor.
Observera också att schemat kan komma att ändras p.g.a. pandemin och rådande restriktioner.
Senast vid kursstart kommer kursens betygskriterier att finnas under "Betygskriterier".
Allt kursmaterial kommer, under kursens gång, att läggas ut på kursens Canvassida, dit ni kommer att bli inbjudna inom de närmast två veckorna.

The course intends to prepare the student for clinical work in animal healthcare, focusing on horses, dogs, cats and to a lesser extent exotic pets.
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- describe commonly occurring illnesses in certain organ systems and associated nursing needs.
- explain principles for wound care and assessment
- describe basic genetic concepts and in general terms describe principles and legislation for breeding work
- describe basic paediatrics
- describe basic infection prevention and control (IPC)
- describe pharmacology and pharmacokinetics in general terms. Apply basic nomenclature and the main points of pharmaceutical legislation in veterinary health care
- describe management and administration of drugs
- describe current legislation regarding writing certificates and medical records
Content
By means of lectures and compulsory seminars and problem-based learning, students learn to identify nursing needs related to medical conditions and are introduced to nursing theory, patient safety and quality work in veterinary nursing. The course covers pathology and special nursing needs related to medical conditions in the following organ systems: circulatory, respiratory, urinary, reproductive and lymphoid organs, skin as well as nervous system including sensory organs. Principles for wound care and assessment are clarified in the course. Writing medical records and certificates is practised at a compulsory seminar. The course includes Swedish vaccination policy and commonly occurring infectious diseases. Other areas covered by the course are paediatric care of horses, dogs and cats, basic IPC, genetic terminology and pharmacology, fluid therapy, handling and administering drugs and pharmaceutical calculations. Legislation connected to the course learning outcomes is covered in general terms.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Approved written and oral examination. Approved written examination in pharmaceutical calculations.
Approved participation in compulsory elements, as well as verbal and written reporting of seminars.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
