Charlotta Hagström
PhD student in biogeochemistry and microbial ecology. I am fond of climate change research, ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles and the roles microbial communities play within these - specifically in aquatic systems.

Research

My PhD project is about assessing the impact of the current declining sulfur deposition on methane emission from lake sediments. This drop in sulfate concentrations in Swedish surface waters may have unforseen consequences for microbial communities and the biogeochemical processes they mediate. One area of particular concern is the unknown impacts of sulfate shortage on ecosystem-scale methanogenesis, methane oxidation and coupled atmospheric emissions of this greengouse gas.
