BECFOR: Study trip Trollberget

Last changed: 11 November 2022

Trollberget Forest and Water Experimental Area – Exploring questions around how historic and current forestry operations affect water quality and quantity, i.e. ditch cleaning, ecological restoration of ditches, and riparian buffer design.

Our first visit will be to the Trollberget Forest and Water Experimental Area. It is located about a 50 minute drive from Umeå . We’ll walk just a couple kilometres and be able to see examples of forest drainage ditches, riparian buffers, and an unproductive mire that will be ecologically restored this fall (the restoration may even be happening when we are on site!).

We will meet representatives from the Industry (Holmen Skog) and the Swedish Forest Agency (SFA, Skogsstyrelsen) to talk to them about how the recent forest harvest was planned and conducted as well as their goals for understanding more about the effects of ditch cleaning, ecological restoration of ditches, and riparian buffer design on water quality.

The representatives from Holmen Skog and SFA are alumni of SLU (Master’s or PhD program), so take this chance to see what options you have with your education outside of academia.

Date: 24 September 2020, Thursday
Time : 12:00 – 16:00
Where: Meet at SLU Library
