Buffering capacity - Acidity

Last changed: 25 March 2022

Known issues with the parameter and/or important method changes

Presently, the acidity of the water is given as negative alkalinity in our databases.

Current method of measurement

Acidity is measured by titration to pH 5.6 with NaOH during nitrogen gas flow-through. The endpoint is indicated with a pH electrode.

Valid since January 2008
Method: Standard Methods 16th ed. 402, pp. 265-269.
Instrument: Metrohm 855 Robotic Titrosampler with 800 Dosino.

Previous method

Acidity is measured by titration to pH 5.6 with NaOH during nitrogen gas flow-through. The endpoint is indicated with a glass electrode.
