Chemical oxygen demand, CODMn

Last changed: 21 May 2021

Known issues with the parameter and/or important method changes

Since January 2019 are the results reported as CODMn i.e. in the unit mg O/l.

Until December 2018 was only the amount of oxidant used (permanganattal) is given in our database. A conversion between the amount and CODMn is done according to:

Amount of oxidant used (permanganattal) = 3.95 * CODMn

Current method of measurement

Valid since March 2008
Method: Fd. SS 02 81 18, utg1, mod
Instruments: Metrohm Titrator Titrino 785
Note: Water samples conserved with H2SO4. Until December 2018 were the results reported as amount of oxidant (permanganattal). Since January 2019 are the results reported as CODMn i.e. in the unit mg O/l.

Method:SS 28118-1 mod. - Vattenundersökningar - Bestämning av oxygenförbrukning hos vatten - CODMn oxidation med permanganat (the same method as for the period 1968-1980, but it was turned into a Swedish standard 1981-05-20).
Instruments: Metrohm Titrator Dosimat 665
Note: Water samples conserved with HgCl2 until 1996. From 1997 were the water samples conserved with H2SO4.
