“The overall objective of the project "Green Sponge Buildings in Scandinavia" is to support the adaptation to the changeable and extreme climate by allowing buildings to become an active part of the climate adaptation solution in the Scandinavian cities. A solution that cannot stand alone, but which can have a major positive impact on the challenges of increasing rainfall and the risk of flooding by storing and delaying the infiltration of rainwater, and thereby relieving the burden on the sewage systems and reducing the health risks.

The project documents the climate adaptation potential, the possibilities and the added values which lie in the establishment of green walls, as well as making the decision-makers' options and points of attention in connection with their choice visible to them. This is to document and visualise where and how green walls can be an attractive climate adaptation solution in urban areas. Additional benefits of establishing green walls in urban areas are furthermore mapped and documented in order to demonstrate the aesthetic, social, recreational and biological value that green walls also generate”.
