Bodil Lindström

Bodil Lindström
I am an environmental analysis specialist partly working as a project leader of the national environmental monitoring program of chemical pesticides, and partly responsible for the area of operation called "environmental monitoring" at the SLU Centre for Pesticides in the Environment (CKB).

Presentation

The national environmental monitoring program of chemical pesticides started in 2002 with measurements of surface water in two rivers and four so-called modell catchments (catchment areas with about 90% arable land). Subsequently, groundwater, sediment, precipitation and air have been added to the program. The data is used, among other things, to follow the Swedish environmental goal "Non-toxic environment" and provide a basis for authorities that make decisions about chemical pesticides, such as the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Chemicals Agency.

The purpose of the CKB area of operation called "environmental monitoring" is to increase the understanding and usefulness of the data collected within the national environmental monitoring for chemical pesticides. In addition to this, CKB carries out projects and sampling campaigns based on current issues, such as screenings in watercourses around greenhouse areas or sampling of air, pollen and nectar from bee communities in agricultural landscapes.

Teaching

I give lectures and have exercises about chemical pesticides in the environment on a number of courses in the subjects environmental analysis and soil science.

Research

I defended my thesis on "Micronutrients in temperate forage crops grown in Sweden. Species differences and effects of phenological development and soil", in January 2013. The same year, in July, I started at CKB. I have had much use of what I learned during my doctoral studies in my work at CKB, e.g. quality control and reviewing of analysis data and results. Based on our environmental monitoring data, some scientific articles have been compiled in recent years.
