Lysimeter station for carrying out leaching studies of plant nutrients, pesticides and other substances.

Leaching of plant nutrients and pesticides in agricultural soils and the following contamination of surface waters and groundwaters, has been a serious environmental problem for several decades. This is something the society takes very seriously and there are many rules and regulations to control that leaching is minimized. To develop mitigation strategies for reduction of the problem, studies carried out in soil columns may be needed. In the lysimeter station, such studies can be carried out under very controlled conditions. It can also be used to study flow processes and how those are influced by biological, physical and chemical soil properties. In other words, the lysimeter station can be used to study both applied and more basic research questions.
