Development of surgical techniques

Last changed: 03 March 2014

I have worked with the development and clinical tests of a resorbable medical device. The invention, based on the construction of a cable tie (the LigaTie), is described in my PhD thesis, http://pub.epsilon.slu.se/8589/, alongside methods for measurement of surgical stress. New surgical techniques are continuously being developed.

Objective methods are needed for evidence based comparison and evaluation. In my research I have focused on intra-operative measurements of surgical stress. Measurement of intraoperative surgical stress: Frequent intraoperative measurement of blood pressure and heart rate shows that the change of the parameters is well correlated to the different parts of the surgical procedure. Comparisons also show differences between different surgical techniques. Which biomarkers can be used for comparison of different parts of the surgery or for comparison of various surgical techniques? Can these markers be linked to other recorded physiological changes?
