This topic covers forest technology and biomaterial utilisation. It concerns the implementation of forest management for industrial raw materials supply and the characterisation and refinement of forest-based biomass for downstream processes and value-added products.

Research is conducted on multiple fronts including: forest operational/harvesting processes, logistics, machinery/robotics development, wood anatomy, refined biofuels, wood chemical modification and pre-treatment technologies for a wide range of bio-based conversion routes and products. Research is done in close cooperation with industry.
