Safe handling of cattle provides better working environment

Published: 09 October 2013

With a simple method for how to drive cattle outdoors, you can and avoid stressful and dangerous situations for both humans and animals

Grazing cattle is a prerequisite for open agricultural landscapes in Sweden. The management of bovine animals kept extensively is however a working environment problem since it can cause major injuries.

In an ongoing research project, scientists and beef producers together learned and evaluated an effective method to reduce these risks; “low stress stock action” (LSS method). Preliminary results presented at the NJF seminar "Organic Farming Systems as a Driver for Change" show that the LSS method reduces both the time it takes to drive the animals and the number of potentially dangerous incidents.
