New statistics on organic husbandry

Published: 26 August 2014

The Swedish Board of Agriculture has published a new statistical report on organic husbandry. They have begun a systematic effort to follow organic animal farming, which will give a better tool for monitoring the development of organic husbandry and to plan for the future.

The statistics show, among other things, that organic dairy herds consist of on average 84 cows compared to 74 as the overall average. Organic dairy farms have thus 11 per cent more cows. One of five head of cattle is organic. Sheep are the animals that have increased the most.
